Australia's domestic and family violence system is stretched to breaking point and the budget fails to replenish its empty coffers. We are halfway through the 2010 to 2022 National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children, amid unprecedented levels of attention focused on the issue of domestic violence. But in last Tuesday's budget, the Commonwealth effectively and literally cut money from frontline specialist domestic and family violence service responses, including crisis services, women's and youth refuges.
