"At least he didn't hit you." That was a common refrain to a friend of mine after she finally found the courage, a while ago now, to leave a destructive relationship. Funnily enough, in the thick of it, she thought it would be better if he did. At least then she would've been able to draw a definitive line in the sand. To know when enough was enough.
