It's become a tradition to play Lesley Gore's reworked version of You Don't Own Me in memory of the Australian women killed by a family member so far each year.
This year, by the time we came to impact's 10 anniversary event on 28 August 2016, 45 Australian women had been murdered by a family member, most by a current or former intimate partner.
Claire de Freitas-Toppi and Tony Toppi performed the tribute live [clip shown here] while 45 guests held placards naming each woman so that she became a reality and not just a statistic.
May their dear souls rest in peace.
