Violence against women is a significant human rights issue in Australia. All women, all people actually, have a right to feel and be safe at home, school, work and on our streets.
Violence is a serious, widespread problem in our society and it has to stop.
This page records the death toll of men, women and children in Australia due to violence, abuse or neglect regardless of the suspected perpetrator's gender or whether the death was the result of relationship violence or not. Sadly, most of the women and children's deaths are the result of relationship violence. The data is supplied via police, media andthe Red Heart Campaign.

impact acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People as the First Peoples of Australia, the traditional owners of the lands and waters throughout Australia: lands and waters which have never been ceded. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and community and we pay our respects to their peoples, their cultures, their languages and to their elders past, present and emerging.
